More Snow...Yippie!
Well, look what we have here! After only getting 3.75 inches from Winter Storm Octavia, a nice "little" system drops 4 inches, bringing the seasonal total to 14.25 inches. Now we wait for the bitter cold and hopefully records setting temperatures over the next two days. Winter is finally joining the party!

Winter Storm Octavia Recap and Regrets
Well, Octavia started out as a miss, then was destined to be a big hit, and finally ended up as what could have been. Another 50 or so miles to the north and we would have been in business. But it was not meant to be. Thanks to a late band of heavy snow pushing through all was not lost. The official Number One on the Fold storm totals check in at 3.75 inches. This brings the season total to 10.25 inches. All in all, it was still an impressive storm with widespread impact. Poor, or lucky, Kentucky got lots of snow. At least the storm trended north so we got in on a little of the action.
Now that is an impressive looking radar. Now we wait for the bitterly cold temperatures to settle in over the next couple of days. Hopefully with our modest snow pack, temperatures will be driven down even further. Here's to record cold!
So long Octavia, we hardly knew you, and really did not care for your name.

Saturday is Fun Day
After starting the day with some tasty omelets and three episodes of Brain Games, the day turned to an epic game of basketball at the park complete with nausea, accelerated heart rates, fatigue, and a sweet victory for the old folks. Final score...25 - 21. It was a perfect February day to be outside and enjoy the weather.
The fun continued with more games including Mastermind, Connect Four, and Tumblin Monkeys.
And to cap off the night, a victory by Kentucky over Florida to remain unbeaten. All in all, a wonderful Saturday for all!

Snow Total for February 4, 2015
A whopping 1.75 inches fell at the Number One on the Fold weather center as a wicked cold front blew through the area. This brings the seasonal snow total to a robust 6.5 inches. We just may run out of eggs, milk, and bread if Spring does not hurry.

Not So Super Sunday
After days of thinking winter had finally arrived, today brings this debacle of a winter storm, as rain falls instead of snow. Instead of basking in the glow of five or so inches of snow, we are left with the wet remains of dashed hope. Through the month of January, the Number One on the Fold official snow total remains where it stood way back in November. So sad. So sad indeed.

That's a Puzzler II
A mere 10ish hours is all it took to piece this masterpiece together. Once again we had to battle the many shades of blue in the sky but they were no match for the dimly lit working conditions frequently encountered in the puzzle making area. Rome was not built in a day, but this castle was. The Magic Kingdom indeed!
Rubik's Cube
After languishing for a decade in a box in a spare room, the Rubik's Cube has been returned to its original state. With the help of videos on the Rubik's Cube website this feat was nearly accomplished on the first attempt. The only problem was the omission of a very important step in the video series, which was properly orienting the corners on the yellow face, the last one solved. Thankfully their written instructions contained this information and the cube was solved quickly on the next attempt. The instructions are easy to follow and oddly enough, remind one of the Common Core way of problem solving - simply follow a prescribed set of instructions step by step and arrive at the correct solution without a true understanding of how you got there. You can feel like you have accomplished something without knowing how to do it yourself! But at least we all now know it is possible. Maybe someday this will be done without instructions to the amazement of all.
