Rubik's Cube
After languishing for a decade in a box in a spare room, the Rubik's Cube has been returned to its original state. With the help of videos on the Rubik's Cube website this feat was nearly accomplished on the first attempt. The only problem was the omission of a very important step in the video series, which was properly orienting the corners on the yellow face, the last one solved. Thankfully their written instructions contained this information and the cube was solved quickly on the next attempt. The instructions are easy to follow and oddly enough, remind one of the Common Core way of problem solving - simply follow a prescribed set of instructions step by step and arrive at the correct solution without a true understanding of how you got there. You can feel like you have accomplished something without knowing how to do it yourself! But at least we all now know it is possible. Maybe someday this will be done without instructions to the amazement of all.
